10 COMPETENCE Consortium. Integrated IST-TEL project.

This is a European consortium to bridge the gap between individual competence development, group-based knowledge generation, and organization-wide human resources management. The consortium will develop a technical infrastructure to address this problem, as well as set up a Europe-wide service network around this technical infrastructure.

EUCEN is an associate partner in this project.

For further information, please contact the EUCEN Executive Office.

ADD-LIFE! - ADDing quality of LIFE through intergenerational learning via universities. Socrates Programme, Grundtvig 1 action.

The rational for this project is based in several facts: the population in Europe is ageing; many older people have missed out on much of the development technologies; quality of life is clearly linked to the level of participation in all aspects of social life; learning groups form usually a kind of fellowship as a consequence of common experiences; standard procedures mainly focus on the needs of younger students.

The aims of the project are to:

  • explore different models of inter-generational learning, collaborative learning between older and younger learners, and inter-generational collaboration on designing new modules;
  • develop learning opportunities that will promote participation of individuals in European civil society as promoters and facilitators/mentors with others;
  • design 12 modules of learning using these different models and different flexible approaches, and pilot 6 of these;
  • evaluate the pilots systematically and report on the lessons learned from inter-generational teaching and learning, and from collaborative design; and evaluate systematically and report on the lessons learned about universities' potential role in training promoters for different fields of voluntary and paid work, identifying the need for further development, including concrete recommendations;
  • disseminate and valorise the outputs and products of the project among the professional communities in European universities and beyond.

Associations 2007. European Associations acting at European level in the field of Education and Training. Agreement 2006 - 4128 / 001 - 001 EDU RAPCOL.

This is a follow up of the projects that EUCEN has had now for 4 years.

With this project EUCEN will help to provide the networking infrastructure that is a precondition for bringing about the developments necessary to promote economic competitiveness and employability, to extend lifelong learning opportunities in higher education, to combat social exclusion and to develop the cultural life of citizens and communities.

For further information, please contact the EUCEN Executive Office.

BeFlex Plus. Call EAC/61/2006. Erasmus Multilateral Project, Modernisation of Higher Education.

This project's objectives are (1) mapping the progress being made by European universities to develop new pathways for adult learners and arrangements for the recognition of non-formal and informal learning using the Bologna tools and identifying innovative and best practice cases, to inform policy/decision makers and managers and (2) disseminating and valorising best practice through the provision of workshops, seminars and training events including regional partners and other learning providers, university managers and operational staff.

The duration of this project will be 24 months.

DISCO "European Dictionary on Skills and Competences". Pilot Project.

The specific aim of this pilot project is to develop a tool which facilitates the composition of Certificate Supplements, European CVs, the Europass and other transparency instruments by offering a multilingual technical dictionary on skills and competencies. We are planning to produce this thesaurus in three different formats:

  • an online tool to offer laymen easy access to translation and glossary of skills & competencies terminology; this tool is designed to be incorporated into the existing web applications of European transparency tools - or any other web portal, that needs terminological support (e.g. sites dedicated to vocational counselling, HR management, employment, vocational education and training etc.)
  • a print Thesaurus and a CD-ROM version targeted at expert users, offering all structural and semantic information in full detail
  • additionally content and structure of the database itself will be available for integration into e.g. HR-management-tools.

For further information, please visit the project web site or download the project information sheet.

EQUIPE Plus - European Quality in Individualised Pathways in Education Plus". Grundtvig 4 Proposal.

The first EQUIPE network has produced an innovative toolkit for quality in ULLL, piloted it and developed a team of experts in its use and in ULL quality in general. Some dissemination has teken place but there has been no large scale dissemination activity or valorisation of the toolkit to embed it in university practices. EQUIPE plus seeks to address all these issues.

The main targeted area is quality in university lifelong learning activity: courses, services, projects, collaborations, partnerships, students' experiences, recognition of prior learning, specail access arrangements, advice and guidance, involvement in Grundtvig projects.

The main objectives are: to inform and coplement the work of Bologna process by focussing on quality in ULLL and promoting debate on the theme; to address the quality of univeristies involvement in Grundtvig and assist in networking between Grundtvig projects and the theme of quality; to provide an overview of quality arrangments in ULLL in 25 countries, identifying the need for further development and making recommendations; to develop indicators of quality ULLL supported by case studies derived from best practice and taking account of definitions and practices in defferent countries; to promote the results of the first Equipe network and of other projects on quality in LLL; to promote training opportunites for staff in ULLL on the theme of quality.

OBSERVAL European Observatory of validation of non-formal and informal learning. Leonardo da Vinci project (Aciton: Networks). 133980-LLP-2007-BE-LVW.

Recognition and validation of non formal learning is a key element of lifelong learning policy. It allows individuals to develop in a positive, developmental way their personal and professional routes through different sectors or institutions without dead ends. But it is necessary to remove obstacles created by compartmentalised approaches, by approaches not really taking into account experiential learning. Exchanges of best practices can be a way to convince individuals, institutions, actors, employers.

2004 - 2007: RUINET "Regional University Industry Strategies Network". Interreg IIIC project.

The overall objectives of this project are:

- improve, value and promote the recognition of the importance of university-company relations within the European reginal framework.

- take advantage of accumulated knowledge within the regional framework.

- identify the good practices that have an impact on regional development in the 3 sectors selected for development: innovation, SMEs and territory; On-going training and the labour market; Entrepreneurship and technology-based companies.

- create a forum in which to share a common outlook within the European scope, with a strong participation and generalised dissemination of models and systems.

EUCEN has been invited to be part of the Advisory Board in this project.

The TULIP Network comprises 14 organisations representing Trade Unions (TUs), Universities, and University and TU sectoral confederations from 9 European member states. Its principal aim is to facilitate exchange and transfer of models of cooperation between TUs and Universities in the delivery of work-based lifelong learning (WLLL) to TU members/employees.

EUCEN is on of the partners in this proposal led by the University of Liverpool.
